To ATX With Love

I'm back, y'all!

You may be wondering where in the world I went, and why I haven't begun an onslaught of hair photos, beckoning a plea to book with me soon. I will get to that in due time, but I had an unexpected opportunity that is giving my budding hair career a real boost. To be announced soon...

In the meantime, I got to take a trip to Austin, in my brand new car, Juno. One of my coworkers celebrated her birthday, and it was a chance to get away for a couple of days. I hadn't been to the Hill Country in a couple of years, so I was looking forward to a chance in scenery.

For one, Austin has a totally different feel than Houston (obviously), but the Texas pride is so real. We stayed south of Austin, away from much of the hustle and bustle of UT central, but not away from some construction. I promise, the mark of every major city is some road being worked on! This was my first time driving around Austin, and the hills and winding roads threw me for a loop. I thought I drove fast in Houston. Compared to Austinites, I'm a pure weakling.  I had to get out of the way just so I don't get rear ended.

The landscape is gorgeous, yet tiring to navigate around. I think the flatness of Houston has spoiled me, but I was grateful for the challenge. The ever famous 6th street, as it turns out, has two sides, west and east. Depending on what kind of pace you want your night to go will determine what side you choose for the night. East 6th Street is fast and furious, and surprising, a love for 90s Houston songs. West 6th Street is for those that want to chill out and socialize. Not much of an adventure there. Even as I approach my 30s, I was digging the faster scene.

When I initially looked up Lake Travis on Goggle Maps, I was instantly disillusioned. I thought there was a whole river near the downtown area. There is, but it's not Lake Travis. Forty five minutes away from where we stayed laid a huge park for nature lovers to come and camp out. My comrades and I thought it was fitting to buy river tubes to float in the water for a while...until the current kept pushing us to the rocky shore. I still do not regret the $10 I spent on it. Spring Break 2019 at Splash Town anyone?

After our off-the-beaten-path visit of the city, plans were already starting to form for a return to the city, but for much deeper exploration of the sights and sounds of the state's capital. And with my Juno now, those plans can now become more of a reality.
